I hold an M.Phil. in Environmental Sciences from Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, where my thesis examined glacier melt contributions to flow in the Upper Indus Basin. Research background

My M.Phil. research, supervised by Dr [Name], used the SWAT hydrological model with temperature-index melt equations to estimate the share of glacier and snow melt in the flow of the Hunza River between [years]. I am also drawn to your group's open-science approach and the collaboration with [partner institute], which would give me access to high-resolution climate data I could not obtain in Pakistan. Why a PhD, and what comes after

Pakistan depends on the Indus for most of its irrigation and a large share of its electricity, yet very few Pakistani researchers work on the modelling of its glaciated headwaters. My long-term goal is to return to an academic or research position in Pakistan, for example at a university or a body such as the Pakistan Meteorological Department or the Global Change Impact Studies Centre, and to build local capacity in mountain hydrology.
