  • ہم جماعتوں سے موازنہ ("top 5 per cent of students I have taught")

To the Admissions and Scholarship Committee,

Re: Letter of recommendation for Mr Bilal Ahmed

It is my pleasure to recommend Mr Bilal Ahmed for admission to the [MSc programme name] at [University name] and for the [scholarship name]. I am an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at NUST, and I have known Bilal since [year], when he enrolled in my course on Thermodynamics II. I later taught him Heat and Mass Transfer and supervised his final-year design project. Over these [three] years, I have come to know his academic abilities and character well.

Bilal is among the strongest students I have taught in [twelve] years at NUST. In Heat and Mass Transfer, a course many students find difficult, he obtained an A and ranked [second] in a class of [110]. What impressed me more than his grades, however, was the way he engaged with the material. He regularly came to office hours with questions that went beyond the syllabus, for example asking how fin efficiency calculations change when fouling is considered in real heat exchangers.

For his final-year project, Bilal led a group of four students in designing and testing a low-cost solar dryer for apricots, intended for farmers in Gilgit-Baltistan. He took responsibility for the thermal modelling, building a simulation in MATLAB that he then validated against measurements from a prototype on our campus. When early tests showed that the drying chamber was overheating, he identified the problem in his model within days and redesigned the airflow. The project won [second prize at the university's Open House exhibition], and a short paper based on it was presented at [conference name, year]. I was struck by his ability to work independently while keeping his team motivated and organised.

Bilal also writes and presents clearly. His final project report required very few corrections, and his presentation to an external panel was confident and well structured. He has a mature, respectful manner with faculty and fellow students, and he served as class representative in his final year, where he handled concerns from classmates fairly and calmly.

In comparison with the students I have taught, I would place Bilal in the top [5] per cent for academic ability and in the top [2] per cent for motivation and research potential. I have no doubt that he will succeed in a demanding master's programme and make good use of the opportunity. I recommend him strongly and without reservation.

Please feel free to contact me if you need any further information.

Sincerely,

  • عمومی خطوط جو کسی بھی طالب علم پر لاگو ہو سکیں ("He is hardworking, honest and punctual")۔
